Students Score with Web 2.0

The final projects were excellent this past spring and for the summer semesters. I used them at both colleges, As a basis for the project students at BSC choose off a list of technology related topics and create an annotated bibliography early in the semester and an outline with their team partner, and students at NCCC are all assigned the same topic – buying their own computer for which they have created an annotated bibliography and an outline. At BSC I teamed them up according to topic chosen and at NCCC they were assigned team partners at the start of the semester. Each class can choose from a list of presentation tools (yes, one of the tools is PPT) including the creation of a blog or wiki, in addition to the examples below. With their permission, I have shared them below.

Ashley and Brian from CIS100 at NCCC chose to use Xtranormal – an online application which is free and can be learned in about 10 minutes

Kristen at BSC created this video for her final project in CIS101 and I think it is amazing, so I wanted to share it. She used Imovie but similar results could be obtained with other applications including PPT.

What is most important is that not only did students demonstrate that they had met the course objectives using technology which yes, is required in my classes, but also that they created content that showed their understanding of what they had learned about the topic AND they were engaged, and even had fun while doing it! Maybe your students could present in a new mode next semester!
